One Sunday in October 2005, as I was getting ready to close up shop at the Pendle Heritage Centre where I work, I was surprised to see my brother and his wife coming in. They had been to see the judging of the Pendle in Paint competition, the only competition I have ever entered. To say I was speechless to learn I had won first prize in the biggest entried Open Section is an understatement. I was a nervous wreck!
This led to my paintings being shown over Christmas in the Pendle Art Gallery at the Pendle Heritage Centre and then a customer who admired my work, asked me if I would put on a larger exhibition in the local village of Barrowford. For this I enrolled my sister-in-law ‘s help – another Sue – who is also into painting, and together we put on our first exhibition with joint work as "The 2 Sue's".
